Disability
In the Fall of 2020 my therapist filed my application for Social Security Disability Insurance. In the Spring of 2021 I was approved. I was approved without a single appeal, which almost never happens, but in my case it was very clear that I was reasonably unable to work. It was too good to be true.
While my doctor and therapist magically ushered me past the first checkpoints of cruelty in the SSA's sadistic hoop-jumping circuit, I was randomly audited, a month later, at which point they ceased payments without a word.
Witnessning first-hand, as victim of it, the cruelty of our nation's social services is one of those things that gives the plot of my book a little more flavor.
I think I've applied four or five times now and still haven't done it correctly.
I don't have a telephone to call them, so I plan to go into the SSA office soon... just to find out what I need to do to complete the application.
Update: Oct 2023
I made it to Washington County, went to the SSA office there (one of three offices in the state), and they were closed still renovating following the July flooding.
Update: Nov 2023
I made it to Rutland County where there's another SSA office and was able to talk to someone there. Our business then could have easily been accomplished via email, but they don't do email.
Sharing my story
I'm interested in using my story as a tool for change. The systems are so bad, horrendous, really, and the solutions are so simple.
The journey's not over…
What I personally need in order to heal is so simple, yet unavailable, so my condition exacerbates and worsens, and has me in a bit of a crisis. I could certainly use some help.
Most upsetting is lacking ammenity to do my work.
